John Vernon - Lord
To research John Vernon Lord's doodles I did a Google search of his name to begin with and I then went onto Pinterest to find a collection of images to reference here.
John Vernon Lord's sketches are very detailed and seem to contain a mix of words, typography styles, numbers and other subjects. His doodle sketchbooks are mostly black and white and look like they have been created using ink pen.
The level of detail that Lord uses is not my cup of tea, when I look at his work I feel quite tense and want to lean forward to see all the detail in them. They come across as quite dark in nature and this is definitely not my favourite style of illustration.
For this doodling exercise I took my A5 Seawhite sketchbook and my Blackwing graphite pencil and a Micron pen and just doodled whatever I felt like. This felt really good and a refreshing change from the intensity of people sketching.
Here are my doodle pages:
I really enjoyed doing these, it was quite a relaxing task and I plan to continue adding to these during the course.
