The main ones have been these Strathmore mixed media sketchbooks, which I already had and are my favourite because you can use almost any media in them.
Experimenting using different coloured pencils to outline my sketches, instead of the usual graphite.
Testing ideas for future work, with watercolours. A medium I am not yet confident with.
Fast donkey sketch on holiday.
Practicing travel sketching, using watercolours and ink.
Doodling in mechanical graphite pencil, using as a comparison to the sketches below, created in coloured mechanical pencil leads.
Add alcohol markers to coloured pencil sketches, to see what they turned out like. I thought the tree came out quite good.
Fast, unfinished sketch of our dog Skye.
More travel sketching with watercolours.
Testing out ideas for flowers.
Testing ideas of different ways to draw cottages, adding in more or less details.
Ipad drawings developed from my original sketches. Drawn and coloured in Procreate.
I also made a start sketching in my large Japanese bound sketchbook and this is to be added to:
I really liked how my feet in slippers sketch came out. I thought it the most interesting out of the other drawings I've done and made me think more about doing people sketching and body postures.
Reflections:
Getting into sketching a lot more has been really great. I am learning new things about what I enjoy and I am finding that sketching is really relaxing for me and whether it is using traditional media or digital I am really enjoying being in the moment and focusing only on the drawing. It's been very therapeutic for me and I am excited about continuing.
I have set myself goals of what I'd like to try with my sketchbooks, like more travel sketches, sketching actual people, more watercolours, different binding techniques for handmade sketchbooks and exploring ways to conceal things in my sketchbooks that perhaps I don't want others to see.
I am really excited to move forward with this course and feel I will grow a lot as an artist because of it and the good drawing habits it will help me develop.
